May the 17th I’ll be playing at this creative festival in Amsterdam among eclectic bands, dj’s, live acts & street theater. Taking place in an old shipyard it has a pleasantly unpolished mad max look and a cheerful relaxed atmosphere bringing people of all ages together in the first warm spring sunshine!

I’m playing in Tivoli, a funky club in Utrecht during the world groove party GlobaLoca! A night known for original eclectic music & open minded people in for a colourful party, just the way I like it! Zorita will be performing live. You can hear bits of balkan, rock, folk & ska in a musical blend they call “Musica Vagabunda.” Also look forward to play back 2 back with DJ Trevo, who has an excellent collection of Afro & Latin grooves.

I’ve been invited to play at Blijburg for the first time. Located at the IJmeer in Amsterdam with a sandy beach and a relaxed bohemian vibe, this is the perfect place to get away from the urban chaos and chill out in the sun, and in the evening sit at a campfire or dance the night away. I’ll be contributing to those good vibes with a spicy set of Tropical Funk, Reggae, Mestizo, Jazzdance & whatever feels right on a springtime Friday night.

I’m collaborating with Mike Hastings aka Bert Vertigo, a talented musician and DJ from Glasgow.. He’s highly active in the Scottish alternative music scene and also part of the successful folkrock band Trembling Bells. Together we bring the most exciting music from the first psychedelic era (1965-1969) and the beginning of prog rock ( early 70′s) to the dancefloor. the Rusty Beat Club

The Rusty Beat Club is a new project I’m involved in. It started last year when I met up with ledjMette after a gig at the Arabic restaurant Nomads in Amsterdam. We made plans to join forces and create fresh soundscapes for the dancefloor with music primarily from the sixties & seventies.. Not a deja-vu of hits though but also obscure recordings, Afro Funk, Cumbia, Psychedelia.. Two talented graphic designers & VJ’s, Hanco Camper and Nadia Troeman, have just joined the club and we look forward to work together and make some kickass, colourful parties happen in the near future!

Played an eclectic set of Sixties Beat, French-Algerian pop, rusty Reggae & Afro Funk @ the International Filmfestival in Rotterdam. Relaxed vibe & good company.. I was invited to play by ClublePOP an inspiring DJ collective with a similar love for exotic sounds and organic beats.

La Pegatina, a band from Barcelona, made the crowd go wild in Tivoli in Utrecht. I was invited to join the fiesta by DJ Tommi. Together we continued the cheerful vibes with an explosive set of Pachanka, Ska & Cumbia. A real feel good gig!

Roots Revisited

The last few years I’ve been exploring modern world music, spicy new fusions of different cultures, music from different countries, often with electronic beats. But when I started performing as a DJ I was in love with the musical productions from the sixties and early seventies. The warmth in the sound, the spontaneity of the performances and outburst of creativity and optimism in those recordings were my musical food for a long time! I’ve revisited those roots with 2 projects. I’ve collaborated with DJ Bert Vertigo from Glasgow for a set of retro psychedelia at the infamous Kwikfiets Festival in Amsterdam and I started the Rusty Beat Club with ledjMette.. which has been very inspiring. More on that the soon!
